Introduction

Gentamicin is an antibiotic that can be used for the treatment of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, bone infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, pneumonia, sepsis, and endocarditis. This medicine is not effective for chlamydia and gonorrhea infections. Gentamicin is sold under the brand name Garamycin and may be given intravenously by injection into a muscle or topically.

Uses

Gentamicin is used to treat bacterial infections mainly Gram-negative bacteria such as Proteus, Escherichia, Serratia, Pseudomonas, and many more. This medicine is also used in treating Gram-positive such as Staphylococcus. It is also used in the treatment of soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections, and respiratory tract infections. This medicine is also helpful against Yersinia pestis that may cause plague. But it will not treat a viral infection such as common cold, flu, and many more. This medicine is store at room temperature that is protected from heat and moisture.

How to take

Take this medicine through the injection into a muscle or vein as instructed by your doctor.
